Opening sequence character profile

Cornelius

Cornelius is a man in his early twenties. He has always been labelled as an outcast, due to his inability to socialise. His mental state of Schizophrenia has deterred all means of having friends or relations of any sort. This loneliness has built up an obsessive interest in the US government, as he has been doing so since his academic years. Although Cornelius feels isolated and unwanted, after the attacks, Cornelius finds a renewed trust in society. He perceives the togetherness that the people of New York display in their time of hardship and pursues to help them. Cornelius like many of us is a person searching for acceptance, but unlike many of us, he possess a power that is difficult to come by, forgiveness.

LOCATION
PROS
CONS
History office
- the office was quiet and well lit, the part of the schoool wasnt that busy at the times which we needed to film for.
- to make sure that the room is available to use at the time of filming and book it for ourselves as it is constantly used by history teachers.
Music practise room
 - Good lighting: it is well lit
-we could of used it to film the insane asylum scene as the four walls look daunting and dark.
- Filming may be interrupted due to someone wanting to play music, also the music rooms are close together meaning it would be hard not to hear the sounds whilst filming.

Research on forms of media

The amount of headlines 9/11 made was endless, nearly every news paper had it down as breaking news, we thought we would bring this into play during our short film-'celius' our main protagonist has his desk covered with news papers and we also incorporated newspaper articles in the credits.

This is where me and my group decided to have a news rail as a voice over, it adds to realism and highly educates the audience into whats happening. Our news rail helped get across what we wanted our audience to hear and understand, the clip has numerous news channels around the world-this gave us the idea to do a range of accents on the voice over to show how many countries are aware of this devistation.

Research on Conspiracy theories

Basic Overview of  the film 'Flight 93'
The film opens early on the morning of September 11, 2001-the same tragic event we based our short film upon, Air traffic controllers monitoring all current flights notice that American Airlines flight 11, a Boeing 767, has taken a southern turn toward New York City and Mohamed Atta makes a suspicious threatening transmission from the flight deck. Shortly after, Flight 11 descends into Lower Manhattan and crashes into the North Tower of the World Trade Center, though air traffic controllers are not aware of it. After Flight 11 crashed, United Airlines Flight 175 begins to descend and turn toward New York City as well. Air traffic controllers then realize they are dealing with a hijacking. American Airlines Flight 77 is also hijacked. The traffic controllers alert the U.S. Air Force, who debate whether or not to shoot down all suspected hijacked flights. The air traffic controllers and Air Force then watch as Flight 175 crashes into the South Tower of the WTC on live television, reported by CNN.

Based on this brief summay of the tradgedy we used most of the information and added it to out short film. We extracted the flight numbers, plane model and crash details in order to stay truthful about the events and realistic. This added to our consiparcy theme of terrosim and sense of realism.

The 9/11 conspiracy not only had movies but numerous documentries which all differ in some way shape or form, it was a challenge to choose which conspiracy theory we belived in most.

Research on Psychological Thrillers

This short trailer was well thought out, all the differents shots add to the psychological theme. When watching this trailer I didnt know what to believe was going on, also the bacground music adds to the suspense and kept me engaged into whats actually going to happen next.

We thought we could use some techniques from the trailer-the voice over at the beginning gave us the idea of realism. Also the changing of voices speaking throughout the voice over are different, its almost as if there having a conversation between them. Close up shots of the protagonist help show the audiece exaclty what they need to see in order tro know whats going on. We thought doing this would give more variety of shots.

The music immediately starts, straight away the audience is locked into the trailer, the music goes perfectly to whats on screen and the timing of shots interlink; this looks more artistic, creative and well thought out. We also took into account the dark shots;when set in a room, this leaves mystery running throughout the audience's head, something we needed to incorporate within our short film.
Thrillers incorporate conspiracy within their narratives. Themes of mental illness and insanity are also clear cut throughout the film, similar to our short film we used the theme of split personallities and dellusion which is the key aspcet of 'shutter island'. Combining psycholgical illnesses and conspiracy we see how the audience is keen to see the development of the film/story line.

A range of shots come into play whilst a voice over is going on, by doing so it urges the audience to watch as well as listen-we knew if we used this our audience would be more engaged and hungry to know what
happens next.

The background music goes from quiet to loud followed by a action scene. Everything runs smoothly and as a unit. Fading out to black on different shots also leaves mystery and illusion to what occurs next and keeps viewers on the edge of their seats.
